Kathy Noble

I am a curator and writer based in New York, originally from London. Over the last two decades, I have devised and led programs of ambitious, experimental, interdisciplinary work in museums, galleries, theaters, and other unique sites. I collaborate intimately with artists to create ground-breaking projects, often combining visual art with dance, music, film, architecture, fashion, and literature, sometimes taking on the role of dramaturg or artistic director.

I currently work at Performa, New York, as Senior Curator, where I curate large-scale commissions of new visual arts performance for the Performa Biennial, alongside other programs. After completing a BA in Art History at Warwick University and an MA in Curating at Goldsmiths College, I worked at The Architecture Foundation, London, before moving to Tate Modern. As Assistant Curator, then Curator, Interdisciplinary, I co-curated the performance program Tate Modern Live, The Long Weekend festival, the inaugural program of collection acquisitions, commissions, and performances in The Tanks, along with Turbine Hall Commissions, and exhibitions. As Head of Exhibitions at Nottingham Contemporary I oversaw the exhibitions program. As Curator in Residence at Wysing Arts Centre, I curated residencies, exhibitions, symposia and events. With the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, I was the inaugural curator for Art Night, presenting ten site-specific projects at venues across Westminster.

I have published numerous essays and reviews in books and magazines including Artforum, Art Review, Afterall, frieze, Kaleidoscope, Mousse Magazine, Numero, and Tate Etc. In my written work, I often explore the psychological and sociological systems that underpin the creation of art, to consider the emotions, impulses, desires, and relationships that lead to its conception.
